Heating Myths Debunked

Friday, October 23, 2015

At A.B. May, we don't expect homeowners to be heating experts. After all, that's our job! Homeowners may not know the truth about their heating systems because they have been exposed to common heating myths. We are here to clear the air, literally!

Myth 1: Ceiling fans are only utilized in the summer.
Truth: Quite the contrary! Ceiling fans can also be used in the wintertime. The blades of the fan should turn in a clockwise direction. Doing so will push rising warm air back into the room.

Myth 2: Blasting the thermostat will heat your home faster.
Truth: Setting your thermostat to a hotter temperature will not expedite the heating process. Instead, your furnace will simply heat your home for a longer period of time.

Myth 3: Using space heaters instead of a heating system will save you money.
Truth: This sounds like a good idea in theory. It does not work well in reality. This is due to the fact that space heaters use electricity, which is more expensive than natural gas.
