New Year’s Resolutions For Your HVAC System

Few things feel better than a new year and the chance to start fresh. This is the perfect time to refocus and reprioritize what you want to concentrate on in the upcoming 12 months. While we often put focus on bettering ourselves, have you ever thought about ways to better your home? The air inside your home has a great impact on your health. Focus on living a happy and healthy 2017, with these resolutions for your HVAC system:

Organize and De-Clutter: Before you can focus on your HVAC system, it’s important to get your home in tip-top shape. Clearing the clutter and organizing your belongings will help you feel more in control in your home and ready to tackle other home improvement projects.

Check Ductwork: After you’ve spent the day clearing the clutter and cleaning up your home, your space might seem spotless. But what you can’t see are contaminants from your dirty ductwork being blown throughout your home. Call your local HVAC professional to have your ductwork inspected and cleaned. Doing so will keep mold, bacteria and dust at bay.

Change Air Filters Regularly: You’ve heard us mention changing your air filters regularly so many times before--but we’re not going to stop mentioning it--because it’s that important! While juggling a busy schedule, it can be easy to forget to change the air filter on a regular basis. When a filter is clogged, it forces the air handler to work harder to push the air through the filter, increasing your energy bill. Set a reminder to perform routine air filter changes and keep the air in your home healthy.

Consider System Upgrades: The new year is a time to review your finances and set a budget for the upcoming year. If you’ve set aside funds for home maintenance, consider adding a whole-house purifier, dehumidifier, or a programmable thermostat to your home.  A purifier will trap and filter pollutants such as pet dander, mold, dust and smoke, and a dehumidifier will reduce excess moisture and allergy-causing mold and mildew. Adding a programmable thermostat to your HVAC system will help increase the comfort of your home and save energy (and money) all year round!
