Unusual Ways to Keep Warm At Home

Tuesday, October 25, 2016

As the weather gets cooler, we often find ourselves coming up with creative ways to keep warm. From doubling up on socks to cuddling under a fleece throw, it’s always important to stay warm and comfortable during the frigid days. You’ve heard us mention the importance of insulating our homes or making sure our windows are air sealed,  but there are definitely a few unique tricks we’re missing:

Rotate your ceiling fan clockwise: A big secret that many homeowners don’t know about, is that ceiling fans needs to be changed seasonally. Setting them clockwise in the winter at a lower speed, can help push warmer air towards you and your family.

Swap your sheets: It’s time to put away the cool cotton sheets and opt for heavier flannel or fleece ones to keep you warm and cozy throughout the night.

Add some layers to your floor: Adding area rugs aren’t just visually appealing, but they help keep the heat in your room too! Floors account for as much as 10 percent of heat loss if they’re not insulated, according to the National Energy Foundation, and rugs will keep cool air from seeping up into your room.

Foil your radiators: Don’t let your heat escape! Wasted heat, means wasted money, but a little foil can do the trick! Put tin foil behind the radiators in your home to help reflect the heat back into the room, rather than letting it escape through your walls. A common household item can help you save a bundle!
