After spending so many months cooped up avoiding the cold, there are few things more satisfying than opening up your home and beginning your spring cleaning. But with so much to tidy up, where do you possibly begin? The simplest way to get your home ready for spring is to follow this list of chores for around the house.
Open all your windows. Even if there’s still a bit of a chill outside, opening up your windows and increasing your air ventilation breathes new life into your home. While you’re at it, wipe down the windows to get rid of any grime.
Dust all of your furniture. Winter air makes for built-up dust and allergens. Use a microfiber cloth and cleaning solution on all of your furniture to remove and trap dust. Don’t forget hard-to-reach places like ceiling fan blades.
Launder your bedding. Dust mites make a home in your bedding and can cause allergies and other health problems. Wash your pillowcases, sheets, and blankets in hot water to clean them, and use allergy-preventing cases around your mattress.
Wash and vacuum rugs. Your carpets and rugs are paradises for dust particles and allergens. Synthetic rugs can be cleaned with a rotary shampoo machine, while rugs without backing will need professional attention.
Have your HVAC systems inspected and tuned-up. Have an HVAC technician inspect your heating and cooling units to ensure they’re running smoothly. If you have any issues with your system, you’ll want to find them out sooner rather than later.
