Heating Tips For Thanksgiving

Monday, November 14, 2016

Thanksgiving is right around the corner. And if you’re the chosen one to host it for you and your family, you’ve probably started already preparing your home for the big day. Since the weather is chilly, you’ll want to make sure that your home is nice and warm to keep your guests comfortable. Make sure your heating system is running on maximum efficiency with these holiday heating tips:

Dust, Dust, and Dust Some More:

Dust in your home not only causes your allergies to go crazy, but is also very detrimental to your  heating system. The more you dust, the less dust there is floating around your house and passing through your filter and duct work. Be sure to grab a towel and wet it lightly--then run it alongside all of your furniture. The dust will stick to the towel and will ensure that it’s not re-released into the air, settling in your heating system. Be sure to pay extra special attention to the vents when cleaning, to remove any unwanted dirt and dust particles.

Change Your Air Filter

It seems simple enough, but this can be one of the most overlooked maintenance items there is. Changing your air filter is very simple and will do wonders for the effectiveness of your system. If you’re unsure as to what air filter to get, bring your used filter to a local hardware store, and stock up on some for the winter months ahead!

Lower Your Thermostat

Between cooking the perfect meal all day and the fullness of your house from friends and family, the temperature of your home is bound to rise without touching your thermostat. Keeping your thermostat slightly lower will not only help you save money and energy, but won’t put as much of a strain on your HVAC system.
